It might
feel like the shortest 88 seconds of your life—but the first trailer for
director J.J. Abrams Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally here!!!
"There
has been an awakening... Have you felt it?" opens the trailer, which gives
us a glimpse of updated Imperial Stormtroopers and X-Wing fighters. The teaser gives fans a first look at the Millennium Falcon, a new droid, and a mysterious cloaked villian wielding a cross-shaped lightsaber.(You can see this villian on the last picture)

The return of the Millenium Falcon |
So we discover new characters with the British actor John Boyega in a stormtrooper suit on a desert planet. We imagine immediately that it’s Tatouin, and it’s for me the most probable deduction, because Tatouin is an emblematic planet where were born Anakin and Luke.
Then we discover other characters: The actress Daisy Ridley who is on a flying machine. She is on a desert planet too; maybe she will meet the character played by John Boyega? And is she a Skywalker? Because she looks like Natalie Portman, so she can be a child from Leia for example. Than we meet an X-wings pilot playing by Oscar Isaac, who is doing an attack over a sea. But we don’t know where it is...
However we have no sign of the old familiar faces Luke, Leia, Han, R2D2, Chewbacca... But J.J. Abrams certifies that the emblematic “heroes” will be there.
However
there is some passage, which leaves me perplexed. In deed we discover a new droid
that has a sphere by way of the legs. The situation is for me a little ironical,
because this part of the trailer looks like a football advertisement. I think
that’s not in the Star Wars mentality, but we don’t have a lot of pictures so we
can’t judge for the moment.
In a last time, I think that the lightsaber is completely off topic. First when we see the red colour, we imagine that the character is a new Sith Lord, who will be an enemy of Luke. But when the “sides” of the saber open, I think that it discredit the Sith lord, because it’s not “normal form” that we usually see in Star Wars. You can see this saber on the next picture...

#15 Hi Loîc, the release of Star Wars' trailer was the huge event of the week, so I found fantastic, that it's your post's topic! I liked the way, you tracked and catched all of the "small mistakes" of the trailer (even if you watched "Faux Raccords with Michel and Michel :))
RépondreSupprimerOn the contrary, with what you think, I loved the new droid, it's so cute! :)
Hey Loic,
RépondreSupprimerI am not a huge fan of Star Wars like you are so in my opinion I think that the change is good.
I know it isn't and will not be like the original movies and I think it shouldn't be. Disney wants to implement changes to expand the Star Wars universe and we have to try not to judge too fast.
Moreover they can't just make the same as the previous movies. They have to bring new stuff.
And congrats for finding this big montage fail. For a big budget movie like that this major mistake is pretty funny.
Bye Bro
Hi Loïc,
RépondreSupprimeras you are, I'm a big fan of Star Wars and I've been waiting for so long to watch this trailer. I really appreciated your precised description of what we can observe. You made as well deductions to try to guess what'll happen in this new saga.
Furthermore you insert in your post good pictures and videos which are helpful to understand your analyze.
However, I disagree with this sentence : " I think that the lightsaber is completely off topic". In fact, that lightsaber's form comes from comics and a novel's saga, which wasn't written by George Lucas. Moreover, time progresses and innovations, even in Star Wars, are possible ;)

Hi Thibaud,
RépondreSupprimerI understand your opinion, but Lucas says in a interview that the next saga don't be agree with a comics, and that the new saga will be a sequel of the first. That's why I'm not so happy to see such a lightsaber.
However I'm agree with you, it's important to discover new facts, but it's important to stay in the topic too :)

Hello there !
RépondreSupprimerI appreciate the fact that you gave your opinion on this trailer. We all know it's a tuff subject when it comes to Star Wars pre/sequels! Although, I must say, I would have love it best if you had talked not mostly about the new stuffs brought by Disney. I know we all tend to focus on it because they're the most controversial things, but, as Yann said, you have to bring some new.
I'm a bit disapointed that you didn't talked more about the aspects you liked in it. In my opinion, JJ Abrams did a really good job there. I kept some of the original stuff like the writing style of Star Wars, the (probably) Tatouin planet and the return of the Falcon Millenium after decades! I also liked a lot the visual and sound effects in the trailer. I think a Star Wars film without amazing effect isn't Star Wars... I also liked some of the new stuffs: the disguises, really fits with the universe, the new landscape, probably new planets and the clones, their helmet is so cool!
Huuuuuuu (chewbacca noise)

RépondreSupprimerSorry but I have to make an other comment about my opinion on the new stuff you seem to dislike. Firt, I want to say, that I totally understand and respect your thoughts about the novelties.
RépondreSupprimerFor me the little soccer-ball like new droid is, as Rosalie said, very cute. It was for me a pleasant surprise, when I watched the trailer for the first time. I think the droids in the previous Star Wars films are the characters that brought a lot of the fun and attachment. And I feel this aspects when I see its form and the way he behaves (even if it's only during one short scene).
Then, the light saber. Probably the most controversial of the new ideas brought by Disney and I think it's totally understandable, because it touches THE emblematic weapon of Star Wars. I mean that making such changes on this lengend... Wait for it ...dary saber was for most people completely inimaginable or at least tabou!
Besides I have to say, I wasn't convinced at all at first. But I tried to remain objective and I started to search for more informations. I recommend this video which explains, in a geeky way, how it probably works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DazDi3yk4bw . After this explanations, I finally got over my surprise and began to like it. I now think it was a good idea, it fits well with the dynamic of the scene and I hope JJ will use wisely in this upcoming film.
Anyway I liked the fact that you put all this gif and photos to illustrate your ideas.
I have noticed a tinny-wennie little error #correction: Indeed and not "In deed". But I'm sure it's just a typo.
See ya!
